How come during the Vietnam war there were so many vietnamese soldier casualties compared to Americans?

Were the Americans that much better at killing or are these numbers all wrong?

Apparently one of the reasons why the numbers seemed so high for the Vietnamese casualties a large amount of them were actually civilians. There's a fairly interesting documentary about it on Netflix if anybody is interested. I'm not claiming everything on this documentary is fact but it is interesting.

They also had air support. The vietnamese had nothing.
