Henry had made money available to support her financially but she was not given any official role in the government, a regency council was created to rule on behalf of Edward until he came of age, she was not on the council. Catherine effectively retired from court and moved in to her former house.

She had apparently had good relationships with Edward and Elizabeth and kept in touch with Elizabeth after Edward became king.

Prior to marrying Henry she had been in a relationship with Thomas Seymour, he was the brother of both Jane Seymour, Henry's third wife, and Edward Seymour who was on the regency council and had manoeuvred himself into a position of being effectively the Regent in all but name. Both Thomas and Edward Seymour were uncles of the new king.

Catherine and Thomas married in secret 6 months after Henry died, when this became public it was something of a scandal as it was such a short period of time. Upon marrying him she returned to court life however at some point she found her new husband in an "embrace" with Elizabeth and sent her away. Meanwhile relationships with Edward Seymour and his wife were deteriorating as Thomas tried to gain more access and influence over the king.

6 months after marrying Thomas, and approximately a year after Henry had died she died during childbirth so she never saw Mary or Elizabeth ascend the throne.
