Pardon me because my autistic American butt has spent about 20 minutes trying to find a way to ask this question. It seems like Romania has spent most of it's history belonging to other nations or empires - notably the Russians, but also Germans, Ottomans, etc. Is Romania that important/resource-filled? Was it just the state of things, that to get free from one empire they needed the help of another? Or is this just a normal trend for European history?
Romania territory is one of the richest in natural resources from SE Europe, a reason for disputes between neighbouring nations and the various conquerors from the beginning of the time. Regarding the historical "trend", I would describe Europe from the fall of the Roman Empire and the beginning of the Middle Ages until today of 2018, a "Perpetual Broken Alliance of Interests".
