Did the Maori use projectile weapons?

Can't seem to find any info on this. Was it all blunt melee weapons? It seems like they were pretty dedicated to hand-to-hand combat. Thanks!

Thrown spears and rocks were fairly common, both thrown by hand. There was also the whip-spear, or sling-spear [1], where a stick with a cord attached to it is used to throw a light javelin or dart. The cord is wrapped around the dart, and thrown using the stick. The stick is called a kotaha, and the dart a pere, according to [2]. This was not a common weapon, compared to hand-thrown spears and rocks. There is no evidence of the use of the sling and bow before European settlement. One old bow has been found in New Zealand, possibly of Melanesian origin, possibly brought to New Zealand by European settlers.

Not all melee weapons were blunt: spears were very common, varying from short spears (about 6' long, which could also double as thrown javelins) through to 18' pikes. Most of the spears were self-pointed, i.e., the point was simply the end of the haft sharpened to a point. Some spears with attached points were used (stingray barb points, and hardwood points).

In addition, there are the clubs which had spear-like points, allowing their use as both blunt instrument and sharp thrusting weapon.

After European settlement, the musket was used. The bow and arrow, and the sling, were adopted as sports/games, but don't appear to have seen use in warfare.
