This interview has a very interesting perspective. Ancient Near Eastern myths often associate dragons and the sea with chaos, which is then conquered by the local god (or king). The author interviewed argues that the Bible seems to interact with these myths by describing the dragon as created by God. For God, the dragon is just a created pet [Ps 104:26], showing how God is not only more powerful than chaos but also more powerful than the purported gods who had to struggle against the chaos-dragon in their own myths.
