So I know that some notables of the American Revolution later played a role in the French Revolution (Paine, Lafayette, etc.), and I recently heard (shouts to Mike Duncan's Revolutions podcast) that some of the officers in the Haitian Revolution cut their teeth fighting with and against the British in the American Revolution. So I guess my question is whether there were any attempts to convince other colonial nations to rebel in order to expand and overwhelm the British? For example, did the Continental Congress ever attempt to contact people in India, Africa, the Caribbean, etc. to attempt to start other revolutions?
This isn't a response, but it might add some context. Based on the way the history of the American Revolution is taught in the United States, many people leave with an impression of Britain as a tremendous global empire of which the Thirteen Colonies were only a minor part. In reality, the empire looked like this in 1776. The American colonies were such a large part of the empire that it's fairly frequently divided into the "first" America-focused British Empire, and the "second" Asia-focused one.
Kind of, the american revolutionaries did invite Canadians (primarily quebec since at the time it was basically the only major population centre in canada) to join in the revolution but was rebuffed
