Why are the aesthetics of medieval chronicles always contemporaneous with the time of the chronicles writing, and not with the aesthetics of the past?

I'm thinking specifically of armor, clothing, and castles in the Hungarian Illuminated Chronicle, but I've noticed this in other medieval chronicles/ illuminations.

(I'm sure the question itself is anachronistic, but I'm curious exactly why.)

I asked a similar question about the Crusader Bible many moons ago and received an excellent answer from u/wagrid
