90s hip hop frequently mentions Tec-9 pistols. Were they as ubiquitous to urban crime as the music would suggest, or was it because it rhymes well?

It seems like the Tec-9 comes up by name a lot in 90’s hip hop. Obviously glocks and other pistols identified by calibre are present, but those are often present in other media, where the Tec does not seem to be as common. Is there any material reasoning for this? Were Tec-9 pistols particularly common in inner-city/gang related crime? If they were, why?

Of course, my premise could be totally off regarding their ubiquity in 90s gangsta rap due to some bias in my perception.

If possible, I'd like to also know more about the availability of other automatic weapons (AK, Uzi) that are also prominently referenced in rap songs of the early 90s.
