What's the argument for the Ottomans being successors to the Roman Empire?

I sent a message to the Original Poster, asking whether they really did want only one side but not the other. The reply was "Both [sides] would be good, but I'm most interested in [arguments] for, as I can't think of any reasons for that."

More can be written, and unfortunately I have only arguments against. You might like to see the discussion "Why dont we view the Ottoman Empire as a continuation of the Roman Empire" by /u/mrleopards , /u/AStatesRightToWhat , and /u/Guckfuchs . Also, in "Was the Ottoman Empire the successor to the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire?" , Searocksandtrees linked to older discussions featuring ConnivingToad and Ultach.

There was a discussion where /u/therealBoomboy pointed to one answer in a discussion on Quora. Not being an expert or having researched it, I don't have a way to evaluate its claims.

This is not to discourage discussion. More questions, data, and debate are welcome.
