Why have so many US presidents been assassinated or been the victim of assassination attempts compared to political leaders of other countries?

by JustHereToFight

As far as I know, there have been four assassinations of sitting US presidents as well as assassination attempts that failed. This seems kinda high, especially compared to other countries like Canada where there has been no successful assassinations of sitting prime ministers or the UK where there has been only one (correct me if I'm wrong).

Does the US have a higher amount of assassination attempts than other countries or is there another reason for this? Am I completely off base here, and the US actually has a normal rate of assassination attempts?

I think a lot of leaders probably have some crazy person or enemy that tries or plots but doesn’t succeed. The American ones are just more famous. Also it is a bigger country with more guns so you’re going to get more crazies.

The IRA tried to blow up Margret Thatcher, Spencer Perceval was shot in the chest, the nazis tried to kill Winston Churchill with an exploding chocolate bar, John Major had mortar rounds fired at him by the IRA, David Cameron cancelled a trip to Afghanistan because of intelligence that the taliban were planning to attack him.
