It's always said that Johannes Gutenberg invented movable type, however according to Wikipedia movable type was first invented by Bi Sheng in AD 1040 during the Song Dynasty. Metal movable type, which seems to be the definition of a printing press, existed for 400 years in China and Korea before it was invented in Europe.
How different were Gutenberg's and Bi Sheng's movable type machines? Is this a case in which the real credit should actually go to the Chinese, a "Western bias" in history? If not, why?
