So I was listening to Christ & Combat by PowerWolf and there is this verse below. To whom is the "To honour the prophet departed" referring to?
Kill and pray, crusaders at heart
In 1097 we started
Lost the way, and spread all apart
The holy roman empire
The remaining knights, prepared for attack
To honour the prophet departed
On they fought, with no turning back
The kingdom rise forever more
Assuming that Powerwolf actually was referring to an actual person, there are two possibilities.
One is Pope Urban II, who called for the First Crusade in 1095 at the Councils of Piacenza and Clermont.
The second possibility is Pierre l’Ermite (Peter the Hermit in English), a priest from Picardy who carried the message of the need for the First Crusade far and wide. He actually led the People’s Crusade, but that ended in October 1096 when most of them were wiped out or taken prisoner in Anatolia by the Seljuk sultan, Kilij Arslan I. Pierre, however, escaped the People’s Crusade ignominious end because he’d gone back to Constantinople to ask for more supplies.
