Were the Pilgrims ever directly aggressive to local tribes like the Wampanoag?

I know overall European settlers were quite bad to the native Americans, but it was often taught in grade school that the pilgrims were friendly to their native neighbors.

They fought a long war called King Philip's war, with Metacomet, chief of the Wampanoag, who were incensed at the settling of ever more people upon their land. The end of the war resulted in the disbanding of the Wampanoag several other native tribes and the enslavement of other indigenous peoples. Several tribes including the Pequots and Mohegans fought on the side of the New Englanders.
