Recently inherited Grandfather's Flag Box with military regalia, can someone please help explain the regalia? (Link in description)

by mom_of_1

My Grandfather was an extremely reserved individual and I do not know much about him. I have since learned that he was a brilliant brick mason and was highly requested across the country. I know that he joined in 1944 after he graduated high school. That's it. Can someone help me learn a little more?

I hope this is the appropriate place to post.

Edit: there is a second picture in the link. Thanks to the Mod I've learned he was a Corporal

Bottom left (Lex et Ordo) is the 716th Military Police Battalion Unit Crest. They're still around. Can't speak for the other ones, but I like to think that if you get in touch with the unit directly someone would be willing to help you out.

Bricklaying! I salute him. A good bricklayer is worth his weight in gold. Just ask Winston Churchill

Hello there! As your question is related to looking for identification/information regarding military personnel, our Guide on Military Identification may be of use to you. It provides a number of different resources, including how to request service records from a number of national agencies around the world, as well as graphical aids to assist in deciphering rank, unit, and other forms of badges or insignia. While the users here may still be able to lend you more assistance, hopefully this will provide a good place to start!

The bullet appears to be a fired 30-06 round, which would be appropriate for an American GI. It is possible it is a German 8 mm round, or even something else. The bottom of it should have the caliber stamped in the brass.
