I'm researching American foreign policy toward Iran from the end of Truman's administration through Eisenhower. I'm currently sifting through the Foreign Relations of the United States series for primary source docs. (I'm always open to other suggestions.) I feel that I need a solid social or political history of Iran during this period for some added context. Thanks!
Probably a good starting point is Stephen Kinzer's All The Shah's Men from 2003, especially as it specifically covers the 1953 coup. It's not an academic history, and offhand I forget what kind of sources it lists, but it is a solid starting point for 1950s Iran and how the coup unfolded.
