Unfortunately, there is little information available due to the difficulty of capturing an intact Tiger II, but the Soviets did manage to carry out pretty thorough trials. One of the tanks captured at the Sandomierz foothold was dedicated for mobility and gunnery trials. According to the vehicle's instruments, it had already travelled for 444 km when it was captured. Reliability during the testing proved very poor. Even at the beginning of the testing, very high fuel consumption (971 L for 100 km, as opposed to the 700 L for 100 km claimed in the documentation) showed that the engine was significantly worn at this point. Upon offloading the tank from the train car that delivered it, it turned out that the right final drive was jammed and turned out to have been completely destroyed, and another Tiger II tank was scrapped to provide spare parts.

The left drive sprocket also failed twice, once at the 86th kilometer of the trials, and once at the 103rd. Inspection of the tank also showed that a torsion bar was broken.

Upon conclusion of the trials, it turned out that the troublesome right final drive was broken again.

These kinds of mechanical troubles were not uncommon for the Tiger II. Out of 45 tanks issued to the 501st Heavy Tank Battalion, only 12 were ready to go into battle against the Sandomierz foothold.
