I love reading Wikipedia articles on historical subjects, especially in 20th century politics. It's great to learn a little bit about a lot of things very quickly, but I always find myself looking for more info on certain things but I seem to have trouble finding good articles on say, the career of a politician or the history of a political party. Anyone have any advice for this?
I'm not too well versed in history or politics but when I was in school I would often use Google Scholar (scholar.google.com). You can find a lot of scholarly journals and things. Sometimes even decent excerpts from books through Google books. Just be careful of your sourcing, especially with politics. The way something is written can be very biased. It's a good idea to research the writer as well if you can. You also might want to try the Library of Congress (www.loc.gov) page. I also found this list of general history resources (http://besthistorysites.net/general-history-resources/).
