To which religions are you referring? The three main extant Abrahamic religions; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, all share variations of the same creation story with the elements that you reference, but other traditions have their own, and very different, stories, while others still are relatively unconcerned with creation (Chinese traditions for instance).
The reason that the Abrahamic religions have so much in common is because they developed in close proximity and deeply influenced each other. They are expressions of the same tradition. In 1853 The Epic of Gilgamesh was discovered, a Mesopotamian poem dating from 2100 BC, it contains many parallels with Biblical stories like Adam and Eve. The discovery of Gilgamesh, which predates any of the Abrahamic religious texts, demonstrated that they were drawing on a common culture of great antiquity which was held throughout the Near East.
