I've been looking around but couldn't really get hold on anything reliable. I'm interessted in the daily life of the soldiers and what they thought and felt. There motivations for going to war against people they have never met. Are the sources or even books/papers that deal with that? Thanks in advance
Francisco Balbi di Correggio was a hired arquebusier who wrote his memoir of the Great Siege of Malta 1565 which was popular enough to go through two editions. It's actually a pretty interesting read, and anyone who (like me) has written on the subject must lean on him heavily. Other than that, most memoirs of that time were written (surely not ghost written!) by the upper crustians for whatever reasons.
