I'd like to expand the question to Turkey as well, if it wasn't already included. Until relatively recently, native Turkic names were non-existant among Turks; they used Arabic Muslim names.

Follow up question: Did naming habits change following the translation of the Bible into common languages (rather than exclusively Latin) around the 15th and 16th century?
