Why did Nazi Germany annex the Suwalki triangle?

by _MrSnippy_

After the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was initiated, eastern Europe underwent major geopolitical changes, as new borders were drawn up by the major powers of the region.

As everyone knows, one of said changes was the splitting of Poland, with the east going to the USSR and the West to Germany, but there's one part of the borders that doesn't make sense to me: The German-controlled Suwalki triangle.

Why would Germany push for the annexation of this small, underdeveloped and frankly insignificant region? What was it's worth? This is what I'd like to know

The region was disputed between Lithuania and Poland, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact put Lithuania in the Soviet sphere of influence, and split Poland. This lead to the region being cut off from the rest of Poland by the Soviet part of Poland, and the Germans did not wish it to be an issue where the Soviets claimed it was part of Lithuania and thus was in the Soviet sphere.
