Why did the Athenians beat the Persians?

by ciarfet

From everything I’ve seen the Persian army were far superior in numbers, training, etc.

The only disadvantage I could find was that they wore little to no armour on account of the army being comprised primarily of archers, but this never seemed to stop them in the past when conquering others.

Which particular battle are you asking about? I'm guessing Marathon (490 BC), unless you mean the Greeks more broadly, rather than just the Athenians. Am I correct?
