Did the Picts/Caledonians have female warriors?

by PluckyPeach

I've read a number of contridicting sources about if they did or did not have female warriors, and I'm curious if anyone here is more familier.

Specifically I'm most interested in knowing if they actually went on campaign with men, rather than simply fought to defend their homes.

Thanks in advance!

I had a go one time at answering a similar question. I'm not so sure about the quality of it anymore, but you may find some of the sources interesting.

edit: Looking over the source again, two things I forgot to mention are that only a single witness is identified as Pictish (Fiachra Cosalach is called a 'king of Picts' in the translation, but the Irish Cruithne are not considered to be the same thing as the Scottish Cruithne, or Picts, any more), and that there is one line in the actual law, rather than the fanciful introduction, that indicates women may have actually fought (If women be employed in an assault or in a host or fight, seven cumals for every hand as far as seven), though of course it could be referring to non-combat roles.
