Did any allied units fight in Poland during WW2?

by BDawk_20

A coworker showed me a paper he has to write for a class about his family. In the paper he mentions that his great grand uncle died fighting in Poland.

I don’t remember ever reading anything about the allies (UK, USA) fighting in Poland. Haven’t been able to find anything on google.

He did say that his family isn’t polish and that his great uncle was drafted between 42-43 and served in the Army.

is It possible he’s of Russian or German descent? Are you merely assuming he was in a Western or even Allied military? There has been plenty of immigration since the war.

At the unit level, the only Western candidate is the Régiment de Chasse Normandie-Niémen, of the French Air Force which did fight over that general vicinity. The only other options would have been clandestine type operations like the OSS, or a liberated/escaped prisoner on the manner similar to Joe Beyrle, who, once in the safety of Soviet hands simply stuck around and fought with them.
