How were international territorial disputes resolved in the early 20th Century?

I am trying to understand other countries solutions to territorial disputes and compare them to the aftermath of the Pacific war.

This is a very broad question. Each territorial conflict was solved in a particular way. Some by war, some by treaties, some by purchase of the desired territory, etc. You must consider specific disputes to have an answerable question.

Examples:

  1. Alaska was purchased from Russia (Russian Empire at the time) by the US in 1867 (source);
  2. Many African countries' frontiers resulted from territorial divisions dictated and arranged by its respective European owner during the colonialism in the 19th century. Many of these frontiers did not take into account the local peoples.
  3. The frontier between North and South Korea is a result of war.
