I’d like to know what the people of Wessex called themselves or each other, this could also include what the Mercian called the people of Wessex or what the Northumbrians called the people of Wessex, same with the vikings or the French. I know that king Alfred called all the Anglo Saxons the ‘anglcyn’.
Tl:dr was there a name for the people of Wessex (preferably at the time of king alfred) like how a British person is callled a ‘Briton’
They would most likely have referred to themselves as West Saxons. In the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle in Old English they are referred to as Wesseaxna which is translated as West-Saxons.
