How much time did Hunter-Gatherer societies spend "working"?

by arbitrarycivilian

I've heard from different sources that either,

  1. Hunter-gatherer societies had to work nearly all day to secure the food they needed - including hunting, foraging, preparing, etc, or
  2. These societies worked far less than the agricultural societies that followed - they had much more free time

What do archaeological sources and modern hunter-gatherer societies tell us?

Although some here may have a few examples, I'd suggest asking r/AskAnthropology, which deals with archaeological data more deeply.
