What rifle did my grandpa fire

by Copter53

He joined the airforce early 60s and during training he fired a rifle that he didn’t know the name of and I would assume it would be an m1 or m14 but he claims it was bolt action. Could it be an old Springfield 1903 or an m40? Google is giving me a hard time.

I doubt he qualified on a bolt-action rifle during USAF basic training. The Air Force used the M-1 or M-2 carbine for training and base defense from the late-‘40s through the early ‘60s. They transitioned to the M-16 beginning around 1964.
