Columbian truth

by Smellin422

There’s a lot of bashing of Christopher Columbus these days. Stories paint him as a horrific barbarian, murdering indigenous people for fun, cutting off hands and noses, and the breasts off of women; raping women and murdering men to recreate the crucifixion. It seems like most of what I have seen is politicized- either very anti Columbus or has some view that Europeans were purposely ruining new - to them - lands for their own sadistic purposes. Where does the evidence lie? What’s the truth?

The truth lies in the fact that Columbus did do those things. He writes about them himself. His crew writes about it. It was kinda notorious. Check out that answer for some relevant information. And one I wrote less than 30 minutes ago.

Additionally, check out my featured post from last year, entitled, "Monday Methods | Indigenous Peoples Day and Columbus Day: Revisionist?". Of course, there's always more room to discuss this topic.

Thank you. I’m always skeptical about revisionist history when it seems revisionist for its own sake, e g when it has political overtones etc.
