From what I understand, there was a lot of Soviet propaganda promoting that the mass starvation was a "necessary evil" to collectivized farming.. But there's a lot of evidence that the NKVD actually confiscated food supplies especially form Ukrainians and other minorities in the Soviet Union.. There's also pictures of "red trains" or wagons with peasants forcibly hauling their food produce to government depots... The bulk of the 10 million deaths from the famine also happened in Ukraine.. Other places in the Soviet Union, but mostly Ukraine.
What do you guys think? I see people saying that the Holodomor is "capitalist propaganda" but I also see people saying that the denialism of it happening is just to cover the ass of the Soviets who caused it.
Thanks again and I tried posting an article about it on another history subreddit but think I was shadow banned.. Or maybe just waiting mod approval - either way, I can't comment on the post I made and can only see it on my profile.
The Holodomor was an event in the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union between 1932-1933 that also happens to have been conceiding with the rise of the Nazis in Germany. The main purpose was to get rid of certain intellgensia and anti-Soviet Ukrainian nationalists civilian or not leading to millions starving to death of course it wasn't the only famine that occured the Kazakh and Russian SSRs suffered similar circumstances.
The Holodomor is unique since it mixes famine with genocide as it was part of a collectivitzation program promoted by Stalin on purpose who also targeted the Kulaks, of course this is Stalin what do you expect like Hitler he ordered anyone who opposed him to be purged and targeted numerous ethnic groups through deporation and extermination and in his final years go on to target Jews in The Night of the Murdered Poets and The Doctors' Plot.
When compared to the Holocaust (another genocide that had the 'Holo-' prefix) unlike that event in which the Allies comprised of the United States, United Kingdom, France, and ironically the Soviet Union/USSR were able to document so much in photos and footage as well as testimony such as the Nuremberg Trials and certain documents despite deniers (neo-Nazis and Nazi apologists such as Stormfront, The Barnes Review and the Institute for Historical Review) attempts to ignore in the case of the Holodomor because of the Iron Curtain-style secrecy of the Soviet Union coupled with pro-Soviet journalists and "intellecuals" in the West they were able to conceal from the rest of the world until the 1980s when the Mikhail Gorbachev government acknowledged it did happen nowadays only Stalin apologists like their far-right counterparts are the only ones who will deny it entirely and chose to blame it on a certain group but just like the Holocaust it did happen but for neo-Nazis and Holocaust deniers alike such as David Duke they will use a legitimetly tragic event like the Holodomor and exploit it as a way of "whataboutism" to claim this is "the real Holocaust" and not the Nazi one.
