During the Battle of Thermopylae was there any other way Xerxes could have marched his army?

It seems stupid to simply march your army into a choke point for any amount of men, even if you outnumber them. I know the only account we have of the war is from Greek historians, but didn’t any of his generals tell him this?

I feel like every Thermopylae question should just be routed to this outstanding post by /u/Iphikrates.
