Okinawa only became a part of Japan in 1879, less than 60 years before the Marco Polo Bridge incident. Did the attitudes of Okinawans towards WW2 differ from Home Islands Japanese?

Followup question: could Okinawans during WW2 typically understand spoken and written Standard Japanese?

I'm sort of confused, what do you mean by attitudes differ? People from Naichi struggled to see Okinawans on equal footing for a long time and I feel like they may now only because of Okinawa becoming a growing popular tourist destination that can sort-of kind-of emulate Hawaii.
