French occupation of Ukrainian territories after WW1 ?

by SaucissLeDieu

I just saw this map on Wikipedia that says (in spanish) that France occupied Sevastopol and the Odessa region. Is that true ? I never heard of anything like that, but the period after WW1 is full of surprises and the map look for the rest correct. If anybody could link me to some docs in French or English about that, i would be super happy

The map i’m talking about : https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0c/Ucrania_marzo_1919.png

It is true. The event was a chapter of the greater Allied intervention in the Russian Civil War. The French deployed forces into Odessa one month after the armistices brought the Great War to an end, Sevastopol shortly after. The goal was to support General Denikin's campaign in Ukraine. Small Polish and Greek contingents also took part.

As the situation turned against the White forces the Allies evacuated. The final Allied presence in Ukraine left alongside Wrangel and his soldiers evacuated from Crimea in 1920.
