Follow up question: was this claim seriously put forward before the publication, last year, of "Hitler's American Model" by James Q. Whitman of Yale University? The book itself seems to indicate that previous historians have considered the connection between Nazi laws and Jim Crow/Anti-miscegenation/the Chinese exclusion act to be weak or only one of many such international connections, was that really the mainstream view?
