I learned in school that it has something to do with the fall of Rome and Barbarians being displaced by the Huns? This could all be completely wrong though, so I'm hoping for a more thorough answer?
Hi there,
I'm afraid we've had to remove this question, as it's far too broad to facilitate an answer of the quality which we'd expect on /r/AskHistorians. If you have a specific question regarding the development of the German language, we'd encourage you to ask that - unfortunately it's simply not feasible to provide a meaningful summary of the development of the entirety of modern German.
I'd recommend narrowing your question down to a discussion of a time and region - such as the languages spoken in post-Roman-Germania in Early Medieval Europe.
Thanks for your understanding!
