I recently bought the red variant of this outfit (not wine red) for Halloween and I was hoping to figure out when this style was popular. I was thinking late 1600s or early 1700s. Am I correct, or is it some other time period?

The outfit does not fit into any time period at all.

The basic cut of the garment is that of a modern sack coat, which has been in use since the mid-nineteenth century. The sleeves are made in one piece each, fairly straight; the shoulders are built up so that the armscye seam is placed as far out as possible; there is one center seam in the back, and side seams under the arms. There seems to be a vertical dart above the waist on each side. The collar has a deeper lapel notch than we usually see, but it's still a fairly normal lapel.

The maker has picked up some tidbits here and there from history to make the basic sack coat look more old-fashioned. The collar portion of the lapel has been flipped up to imitate the style of the 1790s and early 1800s. The contrasting fabric around the buttons might be an attempt at military contrast facings from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The pocket flaps are characteristic (roughly) of the late 17th century and just about the entire 18th century, but these were never made of a contrasting fabric. The ends of the sleeves are most likely meant to look like turn-back cuffs from the same general long timeframe, but these were also not made to contrast, except on rare occasions when a coat was fur-lined (sometimes men did wear sleeved waistcoats with cuffs that could be turned back over the coat sleeves, however).
