I was just wondering how a King in the Middle Ages would usually justify their place at the top of the social pyramid. Was it more religious authority, military power or wealth?
Where? What religious sphere? Catholic, Orthodox, Coptic, Muslim? Mongol? Do only kings count or other monarchs like Caliphs or the early Sultans too? The only general answer would be something like "all of the above, it varied".
