Which " frontier " states in the Antebellum period meet these requirements?

by Catacageddon

I'm writing a fictional story(in Washington Irving prose) for my APUSH class and I want to write about a ranger/sheriff type of character who helps protect new U.S. settlers from the attacks of Native Americans.

So I need a state where my character is based in. The state has to meet some requirements tho.

    1. Has to be a state in the Antebellum period
    1. Should be at least sorta a frontier state
    1. Should have a huge problem with Native Americans attacking
    1. Rustic, open-field, et...Basically, classic physical American frontier geography/setting

Might be a lot, but this sub is pretty epic...

Citations would be cool, but not necessary

Thx
