Did Baker v. Carr go straight to Supreme Court?

The US Supreme Court has original jurisdiction (meaning cases can come straight to them) over a very limited range of questions. The suit in Baker v. Carr was originally brought in Federal District Court (Middle District of Tennessee to be specific), which dismissed the case on the grounds that they didn’t have jurisdiction. The Supreme Court ultimately reversed that on appeal.
