When being invaded and conquered by the English during the 12th century, did the Irish ever violently rebel? If so, how successful were they and what peoples engaged in these rebellions (peasants, nobles, kings, etc.)?

As a related question, how "English" was this invasion? Were the invading soldiers mostly English under Norman commanders, or were they pretty much all Normans, including the average foot soldiers?
