Why did British and other Allies not launch amphibious assaults north of the Western Front stalemate into the German rear in WW1? They had naval superiority- why not flank that direction? They did an amphibious assault at Gallipoli but I’m wondering why they didn’t attempt an Overlord-type attack

There were a number of such plans, which were cancelled for reasons including opposition from the War Office and British admirals, the diversion of troops to Gallipoli, and the failure of the Third Battle of Ypres to produce a breakthrough. For more information, see my writings here and here.
