My history teacher told our class that some had range modifications (such as catapults). I was just looking for any backup for this, as any of my research has led nowhere.
Thank you for any help!
The classic period Greek trireme didn't have any siege weapons. They usually did carry some kind of missile weapons like bows or javelins. The number of marines that were carried depended on how the trireme preferred to fight - if the ship mostly intended to rely on its ram and thus rely on maneuverability they'd carry fewer marines (I seem to remember Athenian trieres carried 4), if they planned to capture ships through boarding actions then they'd carry more marines.
A good resource on the trireme is The Athenian Trireme by J.S. Morrison, J.F. Coates, N.B. Rankov.
