I have read a few books so far, but I'm looking for something more comprehensive in its scope (along the lines of The English and Their History, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, or The Rising Sun). I am looking for a history that will take me from the beginning of the USSR to the end.
I am currently reading Lenin's Tomb by David Remnick and Chernobyl 01:23:40 by Andrew Leatherbarrow, and I have read several books about specific moments in Soviet history (The End of the Cold War by Robert Service, Enemy at the Gates by William Craig).
I have also searched the booklist on this subreddit, but I did not find any books that provided a comprehensive view of the Soviet Union. I have also searched Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but I was not able to find what I was looking for because I don't know how to synthesize what I'm looking for into keywords. What would you recommend?
Hi there, those interested in recommending things to OP! While you might have a title to share, this is still a thread on AskHistorians, and we still want the replies here to be to an /r/AskHistorians standard - presumably OP would have asked at /r/history or /r/askreddit if they wanted non-specialist opinion. So give us some indication why the thing you're recommending is valuable, trustworthy or applicable! Posts that provide no context for why you're recommending a particular podcast/book/novel/documentary/etc, and which aren't backed up by a historian-level knowledge on the accuracy and stance of the piece, will be removed.
