Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s

by Sag0Sag0

Recently I was reading through the Wikipedia page on the second temple and saw it mentioning that the temple operated as a money changing centre allowing pilgrims to convert their money “from the profane standard Greek and Roman currency for Jewish and Tyrian money, the latter two considered religious”.

Was Jesus referring to this in Mathew 22:21 not just that Jews ought to pay their taxes?

Hey there! You might be able to get some answers here at AskHistorians about money-changing practices and the idea of "religious currency." For the biblical interpretation angle, however, I recommend posting this to /r/AcademicBiblical or /r/AskBibleScholars! They know their stuff when it comes to hermeneutics. :D
