Is there a historical reason why Basketball isn't more popular in the UK/British Isles?

by DrGonzo14

It seems to me like the rainy winter season in the UK would favour an indoor sport like Basketball, and as such it would have a fairly popular league when the football/soccer season isn't going on. Is there a reason why Spain, Turkey, and Balkan nations have adopted Basketball much more than the UK?

Thanks!!!

Their seems to be a misunderstanding in your question. Football ( soccer) is a winter sport, and as such is played outside in the rain and occasionally snow ( severe snow does cause postponements but is not frequent or regular in the U.K.).

The football leagues don’t take a break in winter as is common in places with more severe winters.

So I think you will have to look elsewhere for your reasons for the lack of professional basketball.
