Hi, you might be interested in these 2 answers from the FAQ by u/Mictlantecuhtli and u/Ucumu in which general trade in Mesoamerica is discussed:

As a compliment to these I will add that we absolutely have evidence of Mayan interaction with Central Mexico, in 2016 mayan pieces were found in Teotihuacan, and the INAH has confirmed that mayan elites were living (and presumably doing other stuff) in Central Mexico since at least the 300CE, more contemporary Spanish explorers of the time made note of the size of Mayan sea transports which the Mexica regularly engaged with, particularly, the Mayan Chontal peoples.

You can also find mythological relations, Tlaloc for example, the deity that originally recognized the Mexica's Huitzilopochtli as family (they were both left-handed), an allegory to their arrival into the Valley of Mexico, also features heavily in the Mayan Popol Vhu (Tlaloc I mean, not the allegory).

Victor Torrez has also drawn similarities between Mayan cosmology and Teotihuacan cosmology, and though not directly related to nahuatl one, Teotihuacan did indirectly influence the cultural evolution of the Valley lending credence to this.
