I own a family heirloom. Is it anything special.

Sorry if this isn't the right subreddit, it wouldnt let me post text on r/askReddit, and I'm pretty new, if you look at my account.

I have this family heirloom from my great grandfather who passed away of leukemia a couple of years back. I'm not looking for money, or to sell it, I just wanted to know what this little thing is.

The only person I know who'd know it's meaning was my great grandfather. If you know what it is/it's origins, please tell me below.

Bird figurines (usually game birds) used to be a very common decoration on dinnertables, commodes, etc. Or as paperweights.

Looks like you have a brass quail. From the style of it I'd say early modern; 20's or 30's? As I understand it they are often french. There are many in existence however, so they are as a norm not very valuable, although there can be exceptions.

So you would be in this territory;

hope this helps.
