How was the connection from east Asia up to the Bering strait and from there down to the american communities lost in time? Didn't people trade? Was the connection severed by water before boats were invented?

Self explanatory title. It's obvious the population of the americas came from Asia. I'd guess it was gradual over hundreds or thousands of years and I'd also guess there were connections between communities. Bonus. What was the main period of migration and when is the estimated period where it was severed?

There is genetic evidence to support the Beringia stand still hypothesis. In other words there was thousands of years of isolation in Beringia for the eventual ancestors of Native Americans.

There were not modern humans in Siberia 100K years ago so this is way off. NA was populated less than 20K years ago and it most certainly was not gradual based on genetic studies.

I think this should be recategorized in the anthropology subgroup
