Was this a 17th century moral panic, or is there something deeper to it? What scriptures were used to vilify dancing? When did dancing become socially acceptable in American colonies/states that had previously frowned upon it? And how does Footloose fit into all this?
Follow up question: did any of these people feel the same about instruments? I was raised Church of Christ and dancing wasn't allowed, and instruments weren't allowed in the church (on your own time was fine, but I think we were pretty liberal there)
