Strategy books

What books would you recommend regarding military strategy. Mostly looking for civil war to present era but open to anything. I've read gates of fire by Steven pressfield but have found it hard to find books regarding more modern warfare.

One of the best books I've read in the last year was Defeat Into Victory, the memoirs of British World War II Field Marshal William Slim. He took over command in Burma in the middle of the disastrous Japanese Invasion, led what he could out to India, and spent the next two years rebuilding his army before crushing the Japanese at Imphal and Kohima and retaking Burma.

It's an excellent look at everything an army commander has to consider, as he started from scratch. Logistical difficulties, tactical considerations, terrain, diseases, equipment shortages and the complex intersection of air power and ground operations on some of the toughest ground to maneuver on on earth, as well as all the political considerations that go on at that level.

It's a very personable read as well, and he is an excellent writer. It may not be strictly a 'tactical manual' but I found it contained valuable insight on both leadership and the decision loop that commanders exist in.
